What do you Crave?
Sep 4th
So I haven’t been around AGAIN this week…I apologize once again, but I promise I won’t let it keep happening. I had a nightmare of a work week and am still trying to catch up from everything that needed to get done. During my busy schedule last week I attended a buzz party for a publication they are bringing to Dallas this year. A company called Crave puts together a book of 120+ women owned businesses in a city to highlight their company and what they do for the community. I got an invitation from a friend of mine to attend this event, as she thought I would be a good candidate for the publication…so I went. I met a ton of people that night that were really great, and I am so excited that I will be participating in the publication!
So for the next couple of months I have to prepare jewelry, take a photo shoot, and then wait. Just wait! The publication is supposed to be available early December before the holidays. So once everything gets finalized and released I will definitely be posting more information about my photo shoot and feature information. I am super excited that I get to be included!
Yesterday = Failure
Aug 29th
Yesterday I attempted to create some jewelry while my little munchkin was with Papa visiting my grandparents. Attempted is the key word there…I didn’t get a single piece of jewelry made in the 5 hours that I was without child. I did go to lunch with my husband (something we never get to do without baby), and then I did spend a lot of time on Twitter talking to everyone. Once I finally got around to attempting the creating I got two pieces made with clay, let them dry, and then immediately broke them while trying to clean them up before I fired them. It was a complete fail!
It could have been that my clay has been sitting in a container untouched for the last couple of weeks, and I had to remoisturize it and rework it into something that could be used…but I think it was really me being dumb and not paying attention while I was trying to clean up the edges. It also probably didn’t help that I had made two pieces that had a lot of rounded edges, or pointed edges (like ears) that were easy to break. Maybe next time I’ll get more done…. Once we get a house I know I’ll get more done.
BAT-alicious
Aug 28th
My group of friends call ourselves the BATS. Yes, some think it’s absolutely the dumbest thing they’ve heard, but it’s been evolved into the Bats from a series of events. About 3 years or so ago (before I was a mother), we would go to happy hour several times a week. It was a great way to share our insane stories for the day and laugh at each other. Let me tell you we had some GOOD stories…but those are being formed into another blog I’ll write about once it’s formed.
So anyway, we went to this one bar all the time because that’s what we did…but it never had any parking. So one day, I sent an email out to the girls before we all left for work and said I was going to park in the “bat cave” which was actually an empty parking lot for a vacant building at the time. So others joined me in the parking lot and we went to enjoy our happy hour. The bar happened to be playing Trivia that night and since a few of us had “crackberries” (before we all switched to the iphone) we thought we could win by googling everything. So anyway, long story short we needed to come up with a name for our team. We starting brainstorming and the batcave bitches started. We then evolved that into just the BATS, and it has stuck ever since!
Soooo… in a tribute to my girlfriends, I’ve created a BAT necklace! It’s fine silver and measures about 1 inch in width. It has a “script” pattern stamped on the front with a bat cut out, and an antique finish to bring out the “shadows.” The chain is sterling silver and measures 18 inches in length. I absolutely love this necklace! It’s not even on my website yet, so if you want one before they are available email me! The necklace will be added to my inventory in September.
Unusual Unique Shoes
Aug 17th
Tuesday is a day to admire shoes, but I wanted to do things a little different today. Instead of sharing a great pair of heels and giving you a more affordable option I wanted to highlight some of the craziest shoes I have ever seen! Today’s post will be a majority of pictures, but who doesn’t like pictures? I do, I do!! If you want to see more of where this came from visit this article, Out of This World Unusual Shoes. Now on to the madness!
What do you think about these shoes?
Groovy Says it all…
Aug 15th
It’s Sunday again and I’ve got a new feature for the week. So, for the last 3 weeks I’ve been participating in 31 days to building a better blog (actually I’ve been half way participating and mostly getting lost in conversation with this great group). Anyway, Nirvanna Mamma is the host behind the last 3 weeks, and boo has it been amazing! She is amazing!
I feel like every time I turn around she is on twitter holding conversations with like 100 people and still finding time to blog! I think I like her so much because she seems kind of like me…just a nicer, smarter, more laid back me. OK not me at all! When you get to her blog all you can do is smile. As she would say she’s “all warm and fuzzy” but this post was just the opposite- I am Mommy Hear Me Roar. I wanted to highlight this post because she mentions about her high school self would never have imagined being a stay at home mom…and I was totally like that! I remember thinking I wanted to be something big, I wanted to be a CEO or a lawyer or something that I was powerful and successful. Little did I know, and Nirvanna Mamma knew, that motherhood would change us.
She has a lot of great things to say, most of which are warm and fuzzy, and I think you really should make your way over to her blog and check it out. I promise once you get there, you can’t do anything but smile!
Get the Facts about Breast Cancer
Aug 13th
It’s Friday and everyone is going to be off to have a great weekend soon enough. Since Katherine Kouture Jewelry donates a portion of every purchase to breast cancer research I wanted to take a minute and share the facts about breast cancer. Until I went to college joined Zeta Tau Alpha, where Breast cancer is our philanthropy, I didn’t really know how many people breast cancer affected. I have now seen it affect many people in my life, including my family. I am proud that I donate a portion of all my jewelry sales to breast cancer; I think it’s a great way for people to get something nice for themselves and still help a great cause. So here are some of the facts:
- In 2006, 191,410 women were diagnosed with breast cancer. (These are the most recent stats according to the CDC)
- Also in 2006, 40,820 women died from breast cancer.
- Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in women.
- 1 in 8 women are affected by breast cancer
- Every 13 minutes a women dies of breast cancer. (WOW, I didn’t know that one!)
- About 40,170 women in the U.S. were expected to die in 2009 from breast cancer
- It is suggested you get yearly mammograms after the age of 40
- Breast Cancer can affect men as well
- As of 2008, there are about 2.5 million women in the U.S. who have survived breast cancer.
- About 5-10% of breast cancers are caused by gene mutations inherited from one’s mother or father.
- About 90% of breast cancers are due not to heredity, but to genetic abnormalities that happen as a result of the aging process and life in general.
Here are some warning signs of breast cancer (from CDC website)
- New lump in the breast or underarm (armpit).
- Thickening or swelling of part of the breast.
- Irritation or dimpling of breast skin.
- Redness or flaky skin in the nipple area or the breast.
- Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area.
- Nipple discharge other than breast milk, including blood.
- Any change in the size or the shape of the breast.
- Pain in any area of the breast.
Breast Cancer can be very serious and the sooner it is detected the higher your chance of survival. This is such a serious disease and is so common among women. Please take care of yourself and make sure to get tested for breast cancer regularly. You can give yourself a test in the shower each day or every so often. Here is a link to a PDF file that shows you how to give yourself a breast test.
Remember to look after yourself and every little bit donated gets us closer to a cure! Happy Friday!
Bath Time…Ugh
Aug 12th
UGH, I never thought I’d hate bath time! I don’t know what happened? Bath time used to be a fun time, splashing around playing with the bubbles, getting water EVERYWHERE. But now…it’s a different story. All my son does now is cling on to mommy for dear life in the hopes she won’t set him down in the water.
Once I get him in the water it’s just crying trying to pull himself up on the side of the slippery bath tub, screaming like he’s about to die. I have to hold one hand and try to wash with the other hand while he screams. It really isn’t fun for me, and I know it’s not fun for him! I don’t understand? What happened? To my knowledge we haven’t had any accidents in the tub or even in the pool…so I’m not sure why he gets so upset about the water. It’s only in the bath tub too, not the swimming pool. He’s perfectly fine in the swimming pool, and he splashing around and plays.
Anyone have any ideas? How do you deal with bath time and getting your little one comfortable in the water?
Lace is so sexy…
Aug 10th
Lace is gonna be trendy this fall, so I wanted to highlight a lace shoe this week. Last week I got several comments saying they couldn’t wear heels as high as last weeks, so this week I went with a flat. And honestly since I’ve been pregnant and had my son, I wear heels FAR less often; so flats are a good choice. I’ve got two options for you this week, the first a little pricier version and the second a more affordable version. I still never understand why flats are so expensive though, I mean, you use less material than a heel? I just don’t get it!
The first shoe is a cute little lace ballet flat by Elie Tahari. You can find it on Zappos.com for $248. It’s not really lace, as that would be too delicate for a shoe, but it looks like lace for that lacy effect. It’s got leather insoles, which I’m sure are super comfortable. It would be like your feet having a leather ottoman inside the shoe right? LOL, just kidding! There are no reviews on these shoes yet, so I can’t really tell you anything informative other than what’s in the description, but they sound comfortable and would be super cute with jeans or a dress.
The next shoe is the more affordable version of a lace flat. These come in three different colors even! Black, Cream, and Gray. I’ve pictured the gray ones because it’s easier to see the design of the shoe. These shoes are actually by Adidas, so I’m sure they are comfortable like tennis shoes. These don’t have the leather insoles, but they have a “soft man-made lining and insole” although I’m not really sure what that means… Instead of the $248 price tag these are only $94, which I guess is why there is no leather. And just like the first these don’t have any reviews yet, so you can be the first!
And what outfit wouldn’t be complete without a little jewelry? Lace reminds me of classic older time periods, so I thought what better way to dress up some flats with a little vintage jewelry. If you are a lover of vintage here are a few pieces to make you go hmmm…
Tell me what you think of these shoes or the jewelry!
